Pretoria man robbed while ‘police stood idly by’

The policemen did not help because the crime was not part of their division. A businessman has accused the police of standing idly by while he was being robbed in the north of Pretoria, Pretoria North Rekord reports. Louis Eloff said this happened during a protest. He sells and distributes paint across Pretoria. Eloff said he was on his way to make a delivery in Hammanskraal when he ran in to a group of protesters along Soutpan Road in Soshanguve. “About 100 people ran towards my van and stopped it. They took all the buckets of paint on the trailer and got away.” Eloff said the stock was worth more than R25 000. “Two policemen stood there and watched. When I approached them to ask for help, they said it was not their division.” He said he did not lay charges because this would be a waste of time. “Why would I do that when I know that there are thousands of murders, rapes and armed robberies on their books that will never be solved?” Soshanguve police …

False information on social media following a daring heist on the N4 on Friday was hampering investigations, police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said on Monday. He said some dishonest social media users were spreading misinformation that three suspects were later caught, shot and killed by the police. He warned that some people were misleading the public by posting photographs on social media. “Concerned citizens who sought justice need not be entertained by such reports, but work with the police to help catch the culprits.” Masondo was speaking on the incident which happened last week in which nine men armed with rifles shot at a G4 Security vehicle, forcing it to stop, on the N4 between Ga-Rankuwa and the R80. The suspects then overwhelmed three security officers out of the vehicle before using explosives to destroy the truck.

With people getting ready for the upcoming holiday season, it is natural to be slightly more relaxed at this time of the year. Guards cause havoc at Steve Biko Hospital – angry security staff strike over pay

MANAGEMENT at Steve Biko Academic Hospital yesterday terminated the contract of the Born to Protect security company after its employees embarked on an unprotected strike, which massively disrupted services. More than 200 security officers barricaded the hospital’s entrances with rocks, burning tyres and rubble from the morning, claiming they had not been paid. Police eventually intervened. The guards also threatened to shut down the hospital today should payments not be made by the end of business yesterday. The guards said they were striking due to their payments being delayed and some not getting paid at all. The hospital’s acting chief executive, Dr Mathabo Mathebula, said management was terminating the services of the company as the non-payment allegations and delays were not happening for the first time. “Whether they are paid or not, the alternative is for us to terminate the contract with the company; they are privately employed by the company that is workin…
