SAPS is looking the other way as no active steps are being taken to prevent the wave of crime that is ravishing parts of Kameeldrift, East in Pretoria

Despite a wave of crime that ravages Kameeldrift East in Pretoria, it seems that the SAPS is simply looking the other way, as no active steps are being taken to provide badly needed relief for this agricultural community. AfriForum launched several actions to support this besieged area in its battle to call the SAPS to account to ensure that the local police station functions properly to effectively help the community. Among other, AfriForum launched a court application to compel the community to send reservists for the prescribed training to enable them to supplement the understaffed police station. AfriForum also monitors the investigation of various cases, among them that of former Springbok Naka Drotské, who was injured during a farm attack on his brother’s smallholding. Another is that of Manie Entres, whose wife was murdered in his presence. In both cases, the SAPS investigative abilities were shocking. AfriForum has already voiced its dissatisfaction in a lette…

Social media posts hamper Pretoria cash heist probe

False information on social media following a daring heist on the N4 on Friday was hampering investigations, police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said on Monday. He said some dishonest social media users were spreading misinformation that three suspects were later caught, shot and killed by the police. He warned that some people were misleading the public by posting photographs on social media. “Concerned citizens who sought justice need not be entertained by such reports, but work with the police to help catch the culprits.” Masondo was speaking on the incident which happened last week in which nine men armed with rifles shot at a G4 Security vehicle, forcing it to stop, on the N4 between Ga-Rankuwa and the R80. The suspects then overwhelmed three security officers out of the vehicle before using explosives to destroy the truck. Masondo said the security officers were not harmed in the process and the private companies involved in the cash-in-transit he…

Search intensifies for missing Pretoria businessman,Omar Carrim 76

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane on Monday met the family of Pretoria businessman Omar Carrim, who went missing after leaving his Home Hyper City shop in the CBD on Thursday last week. Nkosi-Malobane, with Tshwane West South African Police Services (SAPS) Cluster Commander Maj-Gen Daniel Mtombeni, assured the Carrim family that no stone is being left un-turned in the extensive search for the 76-year-old father of five. Carrim’s car, a Mercedes-Benz E300, which he was driving at the time, was found torched extensively near the Hennops Road (R511) outside Atteridgeville on Friday. Anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, who is also spokesperson for the distraught family, said no ransom demand has been made. “We appeal to the public to come forward with any information. Someone, somewhere, somehow knows something. Omar’s car was found torched. It appears we are dealing with a dangerous syndicate,” said Abramjee. “The family appeals to the abducto…

Gaan jy vries, weghardloop of terugslaan?

■ Moenie gaan kyk hoekom “huil daar ‘n baba” by jou kamervenster…
